Ulunda, Tillinge

Size: 1.74 m x 1.12 m

The original inscription:
Helga reste sten denna efter Rolf, bonde sin (make sin) Gud hjälpe anden hans.

The inscription in English:
Helga raised this stone in memory of Rolf, her master (husband). May God help his soul.

Kalle Runemaster
The arms of the cross are alright, the ring at the centre is uneven. The blades almost make a square. The eyes are round and even. The head is well shaped but oddly enough the tongue is missing. Unless it was forgotten, raking light might reveal it.

Rune 12, the S, was forgotten at first but was squeezed in later.

All the S-runes were simplified and carved with half head staffs only.
The same type of runes can be found on U 1154 and U 774

Erik often had troubles with the S-runes and might have thought that he had found a solution. The commissioners, however, seemed less pleased, and after those three stones, Erik never carved this type of S-runes again.

Below, you can see an article in Swedish on U 793, taken from the book Upplands Runskrifter.
